Weingut Sauer Riesling
This is Riesling with all the good stuff turned up, lemon, lime and crunchy green apple, with a little grapefruit, unripe peach and floral lift underneath. It’s lean and linear rather than fruity or sweet, with bright acidity and a mineral edge that keeps everything seriously mouth-watering. A brilliant first glass, seafood bottle, or just very cold on a sunny afternoon.
Weingut Sauer is one of the organic pioneers of the Pfalz, started by Heiner Sauer in 1987 with just 2.5 hectares and now stretching to around 32. Healthy soils, biodiversity and spontaneous fermentation sit at the heart of the project, with son Valentin now part of the next generation pushing things forward.
