Baglio Antico Bianco IGP Catarratto
Bright, pithy and hugely likeable, this is the sort of orange wine that makes the whole category click. Think citrus peel, russet apple and stone fruit, with a little ginger spice and a gentle herbal edge running underneath. There’s enough grip to remind you it’s had time on skins, but not so much that it gets shouty, which is exactly why it works so well as a first step into orange wine, or just a very easy bottle to open when you want something with a bit more shape than a straight white.
Ciello work high in the hills above Alcamo in western Sicily, farming organically and keeping things deliberately low-intervention in the cellar. Across multiple retailer and importer notes, the common thread is clarity over make-up, native ferments, minimal additions, and wines that feel sunny, honest and very drinkable. There also seems to be some current overlap in naming, with Baglio Antico sometimes now sold as Maremosso Catarratto, but the wine style described is consistently the same.
